Erica Giovanni Baez is a working mom, practicing attorney, mediator, and community leader. Erica owns a boutique law firm focusing on family law. She began her legal career right here in Chesterfield County at the Chesterfield Circuit Court as a law clerk to the Honorable Harold W. Burgess, Jr. She later joined prominent Chesterfield County law firms as an Associate Attorney and Partner before establishing her firm in 2022. She has lasting relationships with the court staff and appreciates the needs of our justice system.
Erica grew up living and working in an oceanfront motel in Ormond Beach, Florida, that her parents owned and operated. She worked alongside the staff, which she considered her family. Her parents cared individually for each guest and employee at their motel, and this positive impact on the hospitality industry left a lasting impression on Erica. This is one of the main reasons she is running for Chesterfield County Circuit Court Clerk. Erica believes she can do the same for the Court’s staff, customers, and the entire Chesterfield County court system.
In 2010, Erica earned her Juris Doctorate from the University of Richmond School of Law with honors. She served as President of the Trial Advocacy Board and was a senior staff member of the University of Richmond Law Review. She actively participated in the Moot Court Board and Student Bar Association. Erica was honored with the “Virginia Trial Lawyers Advocacy Award,” an award given each year to the graduate who most notably excelled in trial competitions.
Erica is licensed to practice in both Virginia and Florida. She is an active member of Richmond’s legal community and Immediate Past President of the Chesterfield Bar Association. Erica was named a Rising Star by Virginia Super Lawyers and has been recognized in Family Law/Domestic Relations by Virginia Business magazine’s Legal Elite. She was the inaugural Chairwoman of the Women’s Business Council of the Chesterfield Chamber of Commerce. She also served on the Board of Directors for the Chamber.
Erica enjoys exploring the scenic outdoors that Virginia has to offer. She is an avid traveler and has spent significant time in South Africa and Southeast Asia. Erica is a competitive ballroom dancer and is involved in the Richmond fine arts community.
Erica resides in Chesterfield with her husband, Jesse, and their young son, Jacob. They are active members at Crestwood church.
